The gleaming white marble has made the village of
Lasa/Laas in the
Stelvio National Park known throughout the world. Particularly in the 19th century, artists and architects valued the noble and resilient rock. Today it is mainly used in interior design, and had also been used in prestigious buildings such as the new WTC1 at
Ground Zero in New York.
In Lasa, interested visitors
can take a guided tour and learn firsthand about quarrying, use and the myth surrounding the white gold.
