The
Ortler is the highest peak in South Tyrol (3905m), it is located in the
Stelvio National Park and offers magnificent panoramic views: from the
Ötztal Alps all the way to the
Dolomites, and under optimal conditions, as far away as
Switzerland. The ascent of the Ortler can only be done by experienced mountaineers, but the surrounding panoramic mountains on the opposing side of the valley offer great views on the majestic peaks of the Ortler,
Königsspitze and
Cevedale respectively.
Another remarkable feature of Venosta Valley are the significant differences in altitude within short horizontal distances. One of the most spectacular crags is the vertical distance at the
Tschenglser Hochwand mountain of approx. 2500 m from the valley to the peak.
