Hike along the Neuwaal

Path no. 15 - 4

General description

This trail starts much further up, on the Aussereggen farm along the slopes of the Monte Sole at Silandro/Schlanders and is one highest irrigation canal trails in the entire Venosta Valley. The trail passes through narrow walkways and wooden bridges through fields and larch forests in the peaceful Schlandrauntal Valley.

Route description

We drive to Schlanders and continue to Kortsch, from there towards Sonnenberg until we reach Aussereggen, where we can park. Directly above runs trail no. 15, the Vinschger Höhenweg. We follow this trail until we meet the Neuwaal on the right. Here we have to climb over a fence, which is made easier by two cross planks. We walk for about three quarters of an hour on this beautiful Irrigation channel into the Schlandraun Valley until we reach the forest road (no. 4). From there, it steadily goes uphill. On the right side, we see a Venetian sawmill and continue until, after about half an hour, we reach the Schlanderser Alm. We follow the path for another 30 minutes until we reach the Kortscher Alm, where there is another well-preserved Venetian sawmill. (The alps are managed from mid-June to the end of September) In this idyllic alpine pasture, we take a break before returning to the starting point along the same route. Note: The hike requires surefootedness and a good head for heights.
