Winery Unterortl

General description
The Unterortl winery is located in the lower Vinschgau Valley, on the exposed southern slope below Juval Castle. Established in 1992 by the owner Reinhold Messner together with the Aurich family, the winery is now owned by Simon Messner. The tenants Raphael and Christine Burki continue to run the business today.

The steep vineyards have an altitude difference of almost 250 metres. Thanks to this exposed position to the sun, the primary rock weathered soil and the gneiss rocks, a unique inner-Alpine microclimate with dry days, cool nights and constant air movement prevails here. This results in wines with fine fruity flavours and a refreshing mineral acidity, which give the wines of the Unterortl winery their special character.

The Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Johanniter, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Noir and Divico varieties are cultivated on 4.3 hectares.  In addition, single-varietal grappas and fruit brandies are distilled in the estate's own distillery, in which the fine flavours of the grapes and fruit from the estate's own production are excellently captured.
