Castelbello-Ciardes/Kastelbell-Tschars in Lower Venosta Valley is known for its agricultural products.
Small-scale orchards and fruit gardens extend over the valley. The sun-drenched region is characterized by pleasant breezes and lack of rain – ideal conditions for the apple orchards and vineyards along the Adige River. Due to the slower maturation at this altitude,
apples, pears and apricots receive a distinctive, intense flavor.
In Castelbello-Ciardes one can find specialties such as local aromatic apricot or pear varieties, such as the
Palabirne. Once considered a healthy aliment for poor people, the Palabirne is now a regional delicacy.
In spring, the fruit trees all over the basin transform the Lower Venosta Valley into a white sea of flowers. These are perfect days for a
bike ride, as the blossom is augmented by numerous spring festivals.
