The Glacier Ski Area of Solda in South Tyrol
Stelvio Pass: hiking paradise and skiing area in Venosta Valley
The high Alpine snowsure summer ski area on the Stilfs/Stelvio Glacier is one of the largest in the Alps. Extending from the Stilfserjoch/Passo dello Stelvio Pass (2,758 m) to Monte Cristallo (3,450 m), it offers magnificent views of the Ortler Group mountain range – against the breath-taking backdrop of 14 summits above 3,000m. Accessible from Val Müstair, the Vinschgau/Val Venosta Valley and Bormio, its ski slopes remain open from May to November.
In this spectacular wonderland near the Ortler massif, skiers and snowboarders enjoy slopes totalling 20 km above 3,000 m – together with the most advanced cable car and ski lift systems. Various cross-country and high-mountain trails form part of the ski area, including the highly challenging Monte Cristallo glacier trail.
With sufficient snow for the winter sports, the ski area in the glacier is open six months in the year, attracting professional athletes in preparation for the winter season.
