Winery Unterortl

General description

The Unterortl Winery is situated in Val Venosta (Vinschgau) close to Merano in the hills of Juval Castle. Here, on about 4 ha of viticulture, we grow the grape varietals Pinot Blanc, Müller Thurgau, Riesling and Pinot Noir, alongside excellent fruit for our distillery. All of our vineyards are exposed to the south and south-east, on steep inclines at heights ranging between 600 and 850 m above sea level. Due to the arid microclimate of Val Venosta, with its hot days and windy cool nights, these excellent red and white whines achieve a notable fruity and mineral character. In the cellars we further develop the character of the wines with regard to their Juval-hill terroir. In the distillery of the winery we also make various types of grappa and fruit-distillates which capture the natural character of the grapes and fruit. The owner, the famed mountaineer Reinhold Messner, and the tenants Martin & Gisela Aurich started the winery in 1992 as a small but high quality wine producing winery and distiller.
