Großer Schafkopf

A sunny mountain at over 3,000 m

General description

Starting point of this tour is the Restaurant Alpenfriede in Gschwell in the Langtaufers valley.  From there turn left across meadows onto a forest path. Follow this until you reach a mountain barn, then turn left and follow the old military track until you reach the edge of the forest. Caution is advised there. The terrain then becomes pleasant and flat. Over wide hollows to the right of the saddle, past the Wetterkreuz and up to the Wölfelesjoch. This is where the striking south ridge begins, which is partly done on skis and partly on foot.
