The biggest draws among the museums of Venosta Valley are the two branches of the
Messner Mountain Museum (MMM) founded by mountaineer Reinhold Messner (with 5 branches in total around South Tyrol): the underground museum located in
Solda/Sulden at the Ortler mountain (at an altitude of 1900m) and the branch at
Juval Castle, which is dedicated to the more spiritual aspects of "mountain mythology".
Apart from the historical
Museum of the Ortler region, there are also five
visitors centers in the
Stelvio National Park. These provide insights into the
flora and fauna of the unique Ortler-Cevedale massif. The
Churburg Castle in Sluderno/Schluderns boasts a Romanesque chapel and a large collection of weapons and armor. The
Vintschger Museum "Vuseum" in Schluderns is not only host to two permanent exhibitions, on archaeology in the region and the history of the local rural population, it provides also a good insight into the history, culture an variety of the Vinschgau Valley.
