At the entrance to the Val Martello high mountain valley, between the ridges of the
Monte Sole and those of the
Monte Tramontana just below the Stelvio National Park and the Texelgruppe Nature Park, lies one of the most diverse network of paths to be found anywhere in the Alps.
Overlooking
Laces, the majestic
Monte Sole has a commanding position of the entire Venosta Valley. Surrounded by high mountain ranges and largely unaffected by rainfall, the Monte Sole has a range of special and unparalleled hiking trails
at high altitudes. This is mostly thanks to its topography including the
San Martino in Monte high plateau, which may also be reached by cableway in a few minutes.
The trails on the crest of the Monte Sole have views stretching out all the way to the magnificent Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009, passing mountain farms along the way where the inviting taverns await visitors.
Circular trails such as the trail along the
Morter-Montani irrigation channel path or the hike from Laces to Morter are also increasing in popularity. There is also the
Töbrunn-Morteralm-Burgaun circular trail with the climb to Morter or the pleasant round trip around the high pastures in the idyllic hiking environs of Malga di Tarres and Malga di Laces
Alpine pastures, which may easily be reached by chairlift.
