General description

Explore Matsch, the mountaineering village with its spectacular view of the grand Ortler and the Matsch mountains. Traversing the valley, Ackerwaal takes you high above fields and blooming meadows.

Route description

The trail commences at the Golgabichl (medieval court and gallows grounds) parking lot outside the village and leads to the village square, passing the parish church and ruins of the Matscher Vögte. Follow the signs to the Ackerwaal trailhead above Matsch. Trail #11 takes you to a bridge, then continue on trail #20, passing by the Außerglieshöfe farms until you reach the bus stop at Glieshof hotel. Return on the same trail or take the hiking shuttle service in summer.
