General description

The challenging Bergwaal trail with an ascent of almost 650 metres offers panoramic views of the medieval town of Glurns and plenty of information on forest and pastures on panels along the trail.

Route description

Trail #24 towards Mitterwaal canal starts behind the St. Pankratius parish church in Glurns and passes above the St. Martin chapel. Follow forest trail #24 for a while to reach the trailhead of Bergwaal trail. Continue to the Lichtenberger Höfe farms. Head down trail #14 to the ruins of Lichtenberg castle and trail #9 back to the starting point. Alternatively, descend at the ruins, pass by the parish church, continue to the village of Lichtenberg, and take the bus back to the starting point.
