The extensive glaciers of the
Stelvio National Park
are always moving and have shaped the area’s fascinating landscape for
centuries. The Ortles group is a massif of approximately 50 km in length
and with almost 100 glaciers. The
Ortles (3,905 m above sea level) is the highest and most impressive peak of all.
Hikers aiming for King Ortles or the Cevedale mountain must
conquer glacial crevasses, pass through moraine fields and navigate
hefty icefalls. Less experienced mountaineers can experience the world
of ice and snow from the Solda Glacier Road or the Glacier Educational
Trail in Martello.
