Traditions are lived every day in Venosta Valley and the Ortles holiday
region. Ancient traditions can be experienced up close in Stelvio/Stilfs and
Prato/Prad – at the
Zussl race, the
Klosn festival, the
Maschgertanz carnival celebration or at the
Pflugziachn
(pulling of the plow). The culture has grown and evolved over time and
been complemented by new ideas. It was in this culture-enhancing spirit
that
Reinhold Messner
brought a small piece of Tibet to Solda/Sulden in the form of his yaks in
1985. Since then, a crowd of onlookers have gathered at the Solda cable
car valley station at the end of June each year to accompany the extreme
mountaineer in the transhumance (seasonal movement to higher pastures)
of his shaggy creatures.
