Winter hike Kulturpromenade Trail Solda

Cultural hike with breathtaking panorama.

General description

The panoramic hiking trail in the holiday region at the foot of Ortler mountain leads through the Sulden valley basin. Information boards and signs along the route relate the history of Sulden, while wooden figures and installations turn this walk into an immersive experience. Get ready to enjoy beautiful mountain panoramas amidst the glistening snow.

Route description
The cultural walk in the Sulden valley basin is a family-friendly circular hiking route around 8 km in length. Thanks to the even conditions, there is little variation in altitude. This excursion takes in a total of 12 cultural sites and museums that guide hikers through the history of Sulden from pioneering days to modern times.
Starting in the centre of Sulden, head up to the old church and continue on past this until you reach the edge of the forest. This marks the start of panoramic trail no. 6. Follow this picturesque path across the forest before coming to the clearing at the end of the valley, with mountain pines, scree and small meadows through which the wild Suldenbach stream flows. Here, you can cross the bridge to reach the large Kneipp facility at the southernmost point of this circular walk – and also pay a visit to Bärenbad pond, which is located not far above the Sulden cable car valley station. Our route then leaves Bärenbad pond behind as it curves northwards, heading through meadows and forests on its way past Hotel Zebru. The broad trail above the valley even features a telescope. Having passed the Hotel Sulden, you then come to a beautiful section of the route above the Hotel Post. Here, you can enjoy a glimpse of how the old post offices used to look in the days of the Austrian monarchy and also pay a visit to Reinhold Messner’s “Alpine Curiosa” museum. As you keep going, you will pass the Schönblick inn before crossing the road and continuing on past a pair of farmsteads. You should then head down into the gorge of Suldenbach stream to savour the sound of the wild water. The Zaytalbrücke bridge brings you to the opposite bank, from where you head uphill to the Hotel Garni Ortlerhof. A brief section then runs along the tarmac road before joining back up with the trail on the slope. Given the snowy conditions and risk of avalanches, parts of the trail are impassable in winter.
The Sulden cable car valley station also serves as an alternative starting point.
