With
no less than 48 hairpin bends, the
Stelvio Pass Road is regarded as one of the toughest in the entire Alps. Zigzagging its way through magnificent vistas and physically testing as it is, the route provides cyclists with a radically new set of challenges and every year a multitude of riders from across the world converge there to take on the strenuous, winding mountain road.
One of the best routes starts out from Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch across Trafoi up to the Umbrail Pass and then to Santa Maria and Müstair in Switzerland. Other highly popular cycling routes are the
Monte Sole mountain Panoramic Tour and the
Fuorn Pass. Other routes are to the Mazia Valley/Matschertal, Val Martello or to the
Resia Lake with it’s characteristic partially-submerged church steeple.
