In South Tyrol with its steep valleys, funiculars and cable cars are part of the means of public transport, just like railway or bus lines. Close to Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch, there are several cable cars and ski lifts leading to the Monte Sole and Monte Tramontana mountains, such as the cable cars and chairlifts up to Solda/Sulden and Trafoi, while another leads up to the Watles ski area. In spring and late autumn it is also worth visiting Lower Val Venosta, where cable cars lead up to the Texel Group Nature Park.
Moreover, one can manage well without a car, since the Venosta Valley Card and other advantage cards allow free access to the efficient local public transport. By means of public transport, one can easily reach all points of departure for mountain hiking tours, all free of charge with the card.
