For the most part, the municipal district of Prato dello Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch is located in the wild and pristine
Stelvio National Park, the largest protected environemt in Italy. The town is located beneath the majestic peaks of the Ortles Massif and is therefore an ideal starting-point for exploring the mountains, the high plateaus and
ski areas in the Venosta Valley.
Skiers can at anytime descend down the slopes of a number different ski areas, all of which border on Austria or Switzerland, such as the Solda/Sulden Glacier or Trafoi and Watles. This is as easily achieved across the border in Nauders in the Austrian Tyrol or in Val Monastero in the Swiss canton of Grigioni. And with the free ski pass skiers comfortably and without stress directly into the nearby ski areas Solda and Trafoi.
If the sun is not, for once, seem so, a trip to Mals, Laas or Glurns, Tschengls or Schlanders. The 50km further south Meran is worth a visit, such as for shopping in the old town or relaxing in the
Merano Thermal Baths.
