This sporting excursion leads us back into the Medieval Ages and into the past times of the Venosta Valley.
Our journey into the Medieval Ages starts at the aquaprad visitor centre in Prad. From this starting point we walk along the main road and then through the hamlet of Agums on a country lane that leads us to the locality of Lichtenberg, where the first cultural-historical highlight awaits us: the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle. Shortly after the hamlet of Lichtenberg the trail changes from asphalt to gravel and continues in a gentle up and down until we reach the medieval town of Glurns. We circle the town along the very well preserved town walls before heading back towards Prad. After about 1 km from Glurns, close to an artificial lake, we turn left in the direction of Schluderns, where the impressive Churburg Castle dominates the landscape above the town. The way back to the starting point leads us along the railway tracks to the fishing ponds of Prad. From here we walk through the dry wetlands of the biotope “Prader Sand” and back to the aquaprad visitor centre.TIP: It is worth making a detour to the ruins of Lichtenberg Castle and to Churburg Castle. In both cases, they can be reached in about 10 minutes from the route.
