Spectacular ice caves, sparkling snow-covered pastures and imposing
rocky massifs line the mountainous landscape to the Resia Pass along the
Venosta Alps and the Sesvenna Range. This
lake region is a great point
of departure to explore the ice and rock world of the surrounding Alps.
The 3,739 meter high Weißkugel mountain situated on
the border between South Tyrol and Austria is the second tallest
mountain in the Venosta Alps. Due to its central location in the
mountain range, the Weißkugel offers a spectacular 360-degree view of
the surrounding glaciers from its summit in the Venosta Valley.
The
Weißkugel Alpine hut opens from early
July until the end of September, offering accommodation for up to 48
hikers and may also be opened in the spring for Alpine skiers.
