By car to the Venosta Valley Cultural Region

By car on holiday to South Tyrol

The Venosta Valley cultural region in South Tyrol is located in the heart of Central Europe and can be easily reached by car from all directions via the Brennero/Brenner motorway and the Resia Pass state road.

Once you have arrived in Venosta Valley, you can leave your car in the garage, because in addition to an excellent public transport network, bike shuttles also offer trips to the excursion destinations.

Good to know

  • Like in Germany and Austria a safety vest requirement is also in place in Italy.
  • On the motorway and on main roads (outside village centres) the car lights have to be on even during the daytime.
  • The speed limit on state roads is 90 km /h, on motorways the speed limit is 130 km/h and in village centres it is 50 km/h.
  • In cities and bigger towns parking is only allowed in designated parking areas. The short-term parking spaces are mostly for a fee and are designated with a blue marking; in most towns you'll find specially designated car parks and underground car parks.

Partial closure at the Reschen Pass
Construction work on the Reschen-Bundesstraße B180 state road

Please note that the Reschen Pass state road B180 will be temporarily closed be-tween Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds and Nauders from September 2024 until the end of 2026 due to construction work for a rockfall gallery (from 8 October 10 to 19 December 2024 the route will remain closed). During the closure periods, we recommend using the detour route through Switzerland to avoid the affected road sections. This detour via the Engadin Road (B184) and the Martinsbruck Road (B185) is 6.6 kilometres long and takes about  10 minutes longer than the regular route, depending on traffic. A de-tailed route planner (Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds) for the detour can be found here: Google Maps Route Planner

  • The good news: During the 2024/2025 winter season, the road will be open for two-way traffic from December 20, 2024, to March 9, 2025.
  • Good to know: During construction work, cars will be diverted via Engadin Road (B184) and Martinsbruck Road (B185). Trucks, vehicles with trailers over 6.5 meters, and buses over 13 meters must wait for the closures or take longer detours.
  • Customs fees: For vehicles over 3.5 tons, a heavy vehicle fee will be collected. This will be organized in a simplified process for the diversion traffic. Vehicles over 3.5 tons using the diversion through Swiss territory must stop at the Swiss customs office in Martina and pay €5 (per trip and vehicle).
