Lasa/Laas is the center of the white gold. The unique, up to 90% pure
marble, which is held in high-esteem and is used by artists around the world, is one of the foundations of material prosperity and lively intellectual life in this coldest area of the valley. It has for centuries drawn artists from near and far. The long-standing sculpture school provides for a good number of artists. So today Lasa is still a village filled with artists, musicians and writers.
But Silandro/Schlanders and Lasa have an even much more valuable asset. The true treasure of the Venosta Valley is its nature: the mystical
Monte Sole Mountain with its steppe vegetation, and the beautiful
irrigation channel paths that were once created as an irrigation system. Also the blooming
orchards that transform the valley into a sea of white blossoms. The
Stelvio National Park with its varied alpine flora and fauna and the Ortles-Cevedale. And last but not least the numerous
mountain huts that are still cared for with much passion.
