There are many significant cultural treasures located in the Upper Venosta Valley, like the
churches, abbeys and chapels dating back to the early Middle Ages. The sacred buildings have even survived the war between the Grisonians and the Habsburgs.
The
Stairways to Heaven project passes
historic treasures of the early and the high Romanesque period, between
Grisons in Switzerland and South Tyrol. The sacred relics of the Middle
Ages start from the Benedictine St. Johann Abbey in Val Müstair
(Switzerland) to the Marienberg Abbey above Burgusio in
Malles/Mals.
Marienberg is the highest located abbey in Europe. Other Stairways to
Heaven gems in Upper Venosta Valley are the Carolingian St. Benedict in
Malles and St. Veit on the mythical
Tarces hill.
