Traditional
farmer's markets,
weekly and
annual markets have been held without interruption for many centuries in the Venosta Valley. Natural groceries and traditional specialties – these are the products you will find in
South Tyrolean markets. From old-style
marmalade and organic
bread, traditional
smoked ham,
sausages,
pasture cheese and
herbal teas to fresh
asparagus or organic
farm-grown eggs.
The large-scale, traditional markets and fairs have, since the time of Claudia de Medici, taken place on recurring days of the year, and also represent social events for the entire valley. Among these are the
Georgi Market in Malles/Mals, which is the most famous plant and flower market, the Spring Market in Sluderno/Schluderns, the
St. Veit Market in Juni in Tarces/Tartsch, the
Rosenkranz Market in Sluderno/Schluderns, the
annual market in Tubre i. V. M./Taufers i. M., the
Golli Market in October in Malles/Mals, the
"Laatscher Markt" in October in Laudes/Laatsch an the
Katharina Market in Sluderno/Schluderns.
There are also in summer
theme markets in Glorenza/Glurns, where regional products, arts and crafts are on sale. One of the most popular
in the picturesque medieval town of Glorenza, is the
All Saints Market, which takes place every year at the beginning of November,
and the
Advent market in December.
