The environment in the Upper Venosta Valley is largely characterized by
green valleys and
high Alpine pastures. It is also the location of the
Malles heath - largest in the Alps. Further north there is the extensive lake complex situated around the
Resia Lake and the lake around S. Valentino/St. Valentin on the heath.
Today, there are more than
80 farmed pastures in the Venosta Valley on an
area of 37,000 hectares of grazing areas and at an altitude of 2,000 m. Many of the pastures also provide resting places for hikers offering their guests
peace and relaxation, along with music, concerts and
traditional South Tyrolean cuisine, served on spacious
sun terraces. The numerous dairies in the Valley produce their own
cheese,
butter and
milk products.
Important: Most of the alpine pastures in the Upper Vinschgau Valley are open in the
summer months, from June to October. Some are also open in the
winter months, from December to April. All opening hours of our alpine pastures at a glance in our
info app.
