The cultivation of fruit and vineyards characterize the valleys of South Tyrol. The local vineyards and apple orchards stretch across the entire Venosta Valley.
Apricots, nuts, figs,
apples and pears such as the sweet
Pala pear also grow on the loose and dry soil between Malles/Mals and Silandro/Schlanders. The Venosta Valley
strawberries are also very valued. The berries from the high Alpine Val Martello are particularly rich in aroma and taste. The cultivation areas are situated at different altitudes and allow for varied and large harvests.
The
micro-climate of Venosta Valley, with its sunny days and cool, windy nights, ensures the slow ripening of fruit and grapes. The highest cultivation areas in the country sit at a altitude of more than 1000m.
